Service Learning
IBDP CAS Programmes
Service Learning Programme at GICLM
Service learning is an essential component of holistic education, designed to help students connect classroom learning with real-world experiences.
We at GICLM strive earnestly to promote Service Learning in school. Through our Service Learning Programme we aim to encourage our young learners to become compassionate, responsible, and socially aware citizens who understand the value of giving back to the society.
In our school, we believe that Service Learning goes beyond volunteering. It is in fact a thoughtful and structured process where students identify community needs, plan meaningful actions, implement service projects, and reflect on their experiences.
Through this cycle, our goal is for students to develop empathy, leadership skills, problem-solving abilities, and a deeper understanding of social issues.
Through meaningful engagement and thoughtful reflection, our Service-Learning Programme aims to help transform our students into empowered young changemakers.
Service Learning in IBDP – CAS
At GICLM, Service Learning and CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) are integral components of the IB Diploma Programme, designed to extend learning beyond the classroom and nurture empathetic, responsible, and socially aware individuals. Together, these programmes encourage students to engage meaningfully with the world around them while developing essential life skills and strong values.
Service Learning provides students with structured opportunities to connect academic learning with real community needs. Students actively identify social issues, participate in meaningful service, reflect on their experiences, and apply their learning to bring about positive change. Through our school’s partnerships with several NGOs, our students are offered relevant volunteering opportunities with organisations working for the underprivileged children, children suffering from AIDs and thalassemia, children battling cancer, children of construction workers, old-age homes, and other community groups. These experiences help students develop compassion, empathy, leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, while fostering a deep sense of civic responsibility.
CAS complements Service Learning by offering a balanced framework that promotes personal growth through creativity, physical activity, and service. Creativity allows students to explore ideas through artistic expression, innovation, and imagination. Activity encourages physical well-being, perseverance, teamwork, and a healthy lifestyle. Service focuses on sustained and meaningful community engagement, strengthening ethical awareness and social responsibility. Through careful planning, active participation, and thoughtful reflection, students grow into confident, caring, and principled individuals.
Together, Service Learning and CAS empower students to understand their role in society, build strong character, and cultivate a lifelong commitment to service. These programmes play a vital role in shaping socially conscious learners who are prepared to contribute positively to their communities and the wider world.
