Languages Curriculum
Foreign Languages are acquired best at an early age and we are leaders in introducing Mandarin at Early Years level, and continue this throughout the school. In EY, Primary and Secondary students also choose between French and German for their language options. At IBDP level Spanish is also offered.
Alongside IGCSE and IB qualifications, students are encouraged and supported to attain proficiency with outside agencies. For Mandarin this includes YCT international levels at primary level, and for Secondary students with HSK. For German and French students enter the Common European Framework (CEFR) examinations from A1 to C2 levels. Of particular note is our special partnership through an official memorandum with the Goethe Institute in Mumbai, which is a government agency promoting German language in India. Our students enjoy workshops, camps and competitions in Germany and Mumbai, due to this association. We regularly have IB graduates gaining scholarships and entry to high level German universities (eg the Frankfurt Business School) as a result of our partnership.
Annually we offer trips to Europe to further our language programme.
Goethe Institute / PASCHE Programme
GICLM has enjoyed a valuable official relationship with the Goethe Institute in Mumbai for over 10 years. They exist to promote knowledge of the German language and foster international cooperation. Our students have access to all the events that they organise, eg. workcamps, visiting speakers, concerts and cultural exchanges, with many receiving scholarships to attend summer programmes in Germany.
GICLM has been the host for teachers conferences, IT training, musical events and is the venue for the annual German Spelling Bee. Offering special teaching programmes, that supplement our studies, GICLM students obtain an advanced proficiency in German acquiring high level certification.
This has enabled a steady stream of our graduates to gain entrance, with scholarships, to ranking German universities in Business, Engineering, automobile study and Entrepreneurial Studies.
